Production Technology Developed
Name of the Technology | Present status of adoption | Remarks |
Seeds of radish when produced from 15 Nov. to 1 Dec., are equally good as to their field performance in the next growing season, although seed yield declines gradually with delay in sowing but quality of seeds in respect of field performance does not deteriorate when sown within this period
|
Farmers do follow this technology to an appreciable extent
|
It is to be informed to the farmers especially who keep his seeds from his field for the next year growing
|
Kapasia Variety of plantain should be cultivated in Chittagong region | The information was Disseminated through some training and workshop
|
Disseminated to some extent |
To increase the seed yield of cabbage variety Probhati under Joydebpur situation, 30 day old seedlings are to be transplanted within first fortnight of Nov. following 30 x 30 cm spacing
|
The technology is followed at the research level but at the farmers level not much exploited | Purification of the variety before seed production is needed and is going on
|
Slightly reddish to reddish tomato fruits are to be harvested for quality seed and after harvesting the fruits may be kept for six days in post harvest strorage without loss of quality of seeds
|
Farmers do follow the technology to a considerable extent
|
The technology is needed to be informed much to the end users through training
|
Medium pruning (heading back to 50% growth) Less followed by the Extenstion work
is better to be adopted in Ber for farmers be done strongly higher yield and quality
|
Less followed by the farmers | Extension work is to be done strongly |
Under the established mango tree, lalsak, spinach and bati sak can be successfully grown. Lalsak and spinach are much suitable than bati sak cultivation
|
Many farmers in Chittagong areas follow this technology | May be dessiminated to the area of commercial mango cultivartion. |
Second fortnight of March is the best time of planting of Indian Spinach under Rajshahi region
|
The adoption status is within acceptable range | The grower sometimes plant before March to have the early crop but yield drastically reduces |
Northen side of an established mango tree is best for higher yield and quality of Lalsak to be grown
|
The technology is not much known to the growers and the mango growers do not follow
|
Extension work is needed
|
Application of NAA-200 ppm has a great influence in increasing the yield of bottle gourd whereas for moderate yield pollination is very much conductive
|
Only hand pollination is followed by the growers
|
Hormone should be used by the growers for summer bottlegourd |
For the cultivation of sabri banana around pabna region, NPK @ 250 100 and 200 , kg/ha should be applied | Followed by the growers to some extent | Technolgy need to be
popularized through training/workshop/OFRD activities
|
November, January and March irrigation are suitable for higher yield of sabri banan under Rajshahi region | Followed by the farmer to a considerable extent | OFRD and DAE need to work much for further extension of
the technology |
The homestead gardening “Kalikapur model” was developed and recommended for northern part of the country and I was involved officially in developing this model | Widely followed and accepted by the end users | It is an important
home garden model for northern part of the country |
In relation to the Technology Development, I workded as a horticultural scientist in the FAO/UNDP Mango improvement and Development Project Phase-11 (BGD/8977044 vide memo no. Dir (R) BARI-206/90/2181 (65) dated 19-9-91 upto the first week of September 1992 with the then National Mango Consultant Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmad posted at the RARS, Hathazari, Chittagong.
Production Technologies Developed
- Growth and harvestable maturity of Red amaranth at different sowing dates
Harvesting of red amaranth at 20 days after sowing (DAS) was found to be suitable for November sowing considering economic yield as well as palatability. December sowing had moderate palatability with leaf stem ratio 1.38 on the other hand, in January sowing when harvested at 30 DAS expressed acceptable leaf stem ratio (1.71). Therefore, considering yield and optimum palatability, harvesting of the crop should be done at 25 DAS in December sowing and 30 DAS in January sowing.
- Effect of GA on seed germination and seedling growth of papaya

- Effect of seed treatment with plant hormone on the growth and bulb production of onion
Seed treatment of onion cv, Taherpuri with GA; 250 ppm increased bulb yield per hectare. The TSS% of bulb and dry matter percentage were also higher when seeds were treated with GA3 250 ppm.
- Effect of Ethrel on seed yield of onion
Foliar application of ethrel at the rate of 900 ppm increased seed yield of onion (4.37.17 kg\ha) with higher 1000 seed weight (4.54 g).
- Growth and bulb development of onion as affected by seedling treatment with plant hormone.
The highest bulb yield of onion was recorded due to the application of NAA-40 ppm at 20 days old onion seedlings and it also increased the higher percent dry matter and TSS (14.37%). GAj 250 ppm was also found to be suitable for higher bulb yield and bulb quality.
- Correlation study of seedling growth and yield of tomato.
Total dry weight, leaf area and leaf dry weight were significantly and positively correlated with yield in tomato.
- Growth and yield of brinjal as influenced by different moisture regimes.
Sufala variety of brinjal was found to survive under continuous moist soil situation indicating its potentiality to cultivate during summer season in Bangladesh.
- Effect of spacing and fruit retention on yield and quality of okra seeds
The spacing 60 X 45 cm with first twenty fruits retention showed the best performance with respect to yield and quality of seeds of okra variety BARI Dheros-1.
- Screening of tomato germplasm tolerant to waterlogging
Twelve HnesWarieties of tomato were subjected to waterlogged situation for 24, 48 and 72 hours respectively following the establishment of the seedling after transplanting during rabi-season of 1997-98. Seven tomato lines were found as tolerant three moderately susceptible and the rest were highly susceptible under waterlogged situation.
- Screening of tomato germplasm tolerant to waterlogging
Seventeen HnesWarieties were kept under water logging situation for a period of 24, 48 and 72 hours respectively after the establishment of the seedling following transplanting during rabi season of 1997-98. Six brinjal lines were observed tolerant, six moderately susceptible and the rest were highly susceptible under waterlogged situation.
- Screening of some vegetable crops for salt tolerance
The experiment was done at Noakhali in collaboration with MCC during 1997-98 to select vegetable suitable to grow under saline conditions. Seed of IS tomato, 6 brinjal, 2 okra lines and one cultivar of Indian spinach were either sown or transplanted in farmers fields at different levels of salinity, such as, slightly saline (2-4 dsm ). It was observed that none of the vegetables were suitable to grow under moderately or highly saline conditions. However, 12 tomato (out of 17), brinjal, okra and Indian spinach lines\cultivar were found to maintain their normal growth and development at low level of salinity (2-4 dsm ).
- Influence of position and maturity of fruit on yield and seed quality of some tomato varieties
In BAR! Tomato 7, when fruits were collected from the first two clusters for seed purpose had the best performance at all stages and full ripe stage with regard to single fruit weight. This combination also produced the maximum number of seeds per fruit (239-274).
- Effect of plant growth regulator (LITOSEN) on the yield of tomato and brinjal
LITOSEN (nitro phenol) was sprayed twice, one at 15 days after seedling transplanting and other at fruiting stage in both tomato and brinjal crops. It was observed that the performance of LITOSEN treated plants was better than control.
