Brief Profile:
Dr. Mohammad Shah Alam, Ph.D., is Head and an Associate Professor at Department of Anatomy and Histology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur, Bangladesh. Dr. Alam obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) and Master of Science (M.S.) in Veterinary Anatomy from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh, and then his doctoral degree (Veterinary Medical Sciences) from the University of Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Alam was a postdoctoral fellow in the same university from 2010 to 2011. During this period, Dr. Alam investigated the role of oxidative stress in spermatogenic cell apoptosis in rat and mouse models and its inhibition using the Nrf2 signalling pathway. He took 2nd postdoctoral training in the Structural Biology Group at the School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. During his postdoctoral training, Dr. Alam did whole-mount three-dimensional (3D) imaging of urogenital, digestive, and nervous systems using optical tissue clearing and immunofluorescence methods in normal and Nrf2- related disease models. Currently, his research activities are focused on the role of neutrophils and cytokines release by programmed cell death (apoptosis) and oxidative stress in preclinical disease models and environmental endocrine disruptors exposure. To date, he has over 22 original research articles and 5 review articles in reputed journals.
He has been involved in several research projects funded by a variety of sources, including the RMC of BSMRAU, the Ministry of Science and Technology, HEQEP, Bangladesh. He is the author and co-author of more than 27 papers published in reputed international journals such as Cytokine and Growth Factor Reviews, Reproduction; Tissue and Cell; Acta Histochemica; Anatomia, Histologia and embryologia; European Respiratory Journal; International Immunopharmacology; Journal of Thoracic Oncology; Journal of Neuroscience Methods; Transactions on Biomedical Engineering; Reproduction, Fertility and Development; Egyptian Journal of Histology; Okajimas Folia Anatomica Japonica; Veterinary Sciences, Research and Review; Journal of Advanced Veterinary and Animal Research; Journal Advanced Biotechnology and Experimental Therapeutics and Journal of University, Teaching and Learning Practice, etc. He also published more than 3 papers in local scientific journals and presented nearly 13 papers in reputed international conferences.
Dr. Alam started his service in 2005 as a Lecturer in the Department of Anatomy and Histology, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, Bangladesh. Later he was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Histology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur in April 2011. He has been promoted to Associate Professor in April 2017. Now he is working as head of the department. Dr. Alam has also teaching experience abroad including at The University of Tokyo, Japan, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China.
