The Physiology & Pharmacology program combines two key life science disciplines to provide a comprehensive understanding of the functions and mechanisms of actions of the major systems of the animal body, and of the effects and mode of action of chemicals which modify the major systems of the body.  The department offer several course for the DVM degree provides the strongest foundation for those considering application to Medicine, Physical Therapy, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy and Nutrition, Pathology and other animal health care related professional programs.  Following a 5-year of DVM degree, students may also choose to continue on to graduate work leading to a Masters’ or Ph.D. in Physiology or Pharmacology and a career as a research scientist.

The Physiology and Pharmacology Discipline encompasses the study of fundamental mechanisms of normal and disease function. Investigators seek to integrate information from molecular, cellular and organ/system levels to spur discoveries, which will lead to new and improved drug treatments for animal disease. Using the cutting age technology and sophisticated genetic and molecular tools, our scientists are unraveling the fundamental mechanisms that underlie tissue and cellular physiology, and how these processes are compromised in injury and disease. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University is renowned for its seminal contributions in many areas of agricultural research. Faculty of veterinary medicine and animal science is  a well established faculty in this university that offers DVM degree and graduate programs. For the requirement of those programs physiology and pharmacology department conduct several courses  including general physiology, systemic physiology, nutritional physiology, general pharmacology, systemic pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmacy courses for the undergraduate students. Using multidisciplinary approaches, our scientists are able to offer a unique perspective in determining the effects of chemical agents upon biological processes at the sub-cellular, cellular, organ system, physiological and behavioral levels. The ultimate goal is to perform proper diagnosis, treatment and prevention of animal disease using integrated knowledge achieved after completion of the degree. Research expertise is assembled in the areas of cardiovascular, neuropharmacology, cancer pharmacology, diabetes, nutrition, production, pain research, mycotoxicosis, immunopharmacology and hormones.
