Department of Fisheries Biology and Aquatic Environment started its academic activity since 2009 in the Faculty of Fisheries, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur, Bangladesh. This Department offers outstanding undergraduate (BS) and graduate (MS) programs in fisheries biology and aquatic environment. The contents include fisheries zoology, zoogeography, taxonomy, physiology, functional morphology, behavior, ecology, fisheries assessment, life histories, and factors influencing fish community structure, development, conservation and management of aquatic environment. Equipment and facilities are available for research in fundamental and applied field of fish biology and aquatic environment. Current major research foci include (i) Study on biodiversity status of indigenous fish species, (ii) Study on the breeding biology of important indigenous fish species, (iii) Evaluation of seminal plasma composition and sperm quality parameter of fish semen and effect on motility (iv) Pesticide concentration on fish body contaminated from agricultural effluents. (v) Utilization of seaweed as fish feed ingredient. (vi) Probiotics and fermentation technology. (vi) Aquamimicry as new aquaculture technique introducing in Satkhira. This department now operating different research projects funded by several organizations including KGF, NATP, Ministry of Education, RMC, UGC, NST etc.
