The central laboratory was established in 2013 with a view to create world class facilities in research for the postgraduate students and the faculties so that it would be an integral part of the center of excellence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU). Then it was renamed as Dr. M. A. Wazed Mia Central Laboratory (WMCL). Initially, it was two storied building but now it has extended to three and half storied building. The central Laboratory has been planned to be equipped with cutting edge instruments to conduct the quality research comparable to that of laboratories of the international standard. However, faculty members or postgraduate students could out their research, special analysis, or experimental work in the laboratory. There are six main laboratories under the central laboratory : a) Advanced Analytical Laboratory b) Advanced Physiology Laboratory c) Advanced Molecular and Genetic Engineering Laboratory d) Advanced Microbiology laboratory e) GIS and Remote Sensing Laboratory f) Microscopy and Analytical Imaging Laboratory.
The main objectives of the Dr. M. A. Wazed Mia Central Laboratory are as follows-
- Provide research facilities to the postgraduate students and faculties of different Departments/ Institutes of the University;
- Generate highly skilled specialist in advanced research in the field of agricultural sciences by providing hands on training;
- Develop a network of scientists and technologists of home and abroad by initiating collaborative research and arranging seminar, workshop and conferences; and
- Perform such other functions as required to attain the objectives of the university with the approval of the Syndicate.
