BSMRAU Celebrates 27th University Day and Festival of THE Rankings

On the occasion of its 27th University Day, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) celebrated in grand style marking several significant achievements including securing the top position among all public and private universities in the country in the Life Sciences category of the renowned Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings 2025. The campus was adorned with festive decorations and colorful placards creating a vibrant atmosphere for the event. The day’s celebrations were graced by the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division, Siddique Zobair as the Chief Guest and the Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Dr. Md Nazmul Karim Khan as the Special Guest. The ceremony was presided over by BSMRAU’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman. The event began at 10:00 AM with the hoisting of the national flag followed by the rendition of the national anthem. Symbolizing peace and the 27 year legacy of the university, 27 balloons and doves were released into the sky. A colorful rally was then organized featuring banners, posters, and paintings created by students from the university’s seven faculties. The rally which toured the entire campus concluded at the Agriculture Faculty Building. The Vice-Chancellor, Chief Guest and Special Guest then visited the stalls set up by various faculties to showcase their work and achievements. Later, a discussion session was held at the university’s Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium. The session began with a captivating documentary highlighting the university’s numerous accomplishments and distinctive features. In his speech, Special Guest Dr. Md Nazmul Karim Khan urged timely certification for students emphasizing the importance of meeting academic deadlines. During the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer presented honorary awards to distinguished guests. In his address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mustafizur Rahman noted that BSMRAU had not only topped the THE Rankings but also secured first place in both the WURI and Scimago rankings. He further mentioned that the university had consistently ranked first in the Annual Performance Agreement (APA) for the past three years. Expressing his determination to elevate the university to the top 100-200 rankings internationally, he extended his heartfelt congratulations to the entire BSMRAU faculty, staff and students on their remarkable achievements. Chief Guest Siddique Zobair congratulated BSMRAU for its stellar performance in the THE Rankings and acknowledged the university as a unique institution where the academic calendar is followed rigorously. He emphasized the importance of authentic national data and assured continued support from the Ministry of Education in promoting excellence in BSMRAU’s education and research initiatives. The event also featured speeches from Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Moynul Haque, Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad and Registrar Md. Abdullah Mridha. A diverse audience, including deans, directors, faculty members, students and staff attended the event. In the evening, the university hosted a flash move performance by students followed by a cultural program that brought the day’s celebrations to a lively close.
