Professor Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain born on June 10, 1964 in Bogra. He passed Secondary School Certificate Examination in 1980 from Gabtoli pilot High School, Gabtoli, Bogra and Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination in 1982 from Government Azizul Haque College, Bogra securing 1st class in both the examinations. He obtained Bachelor of Science in Fisheries (Honours) degree from Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1986 and Master of Science in Fisheries Biology & Limnology from the same university in 1987 securing 1st class in both cases. Prof. Hossain had been selected by Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh for the MONBUSHO scholarship of Japan Government in 1994. He obtained MS in Fish Nutrition and Ph.D in Fish Nutrition from Kyushu University, Japan in the year 1997 and 2000, respectively. He obtained a certificate on 6 months long Japanese Language Course from the same university. Prof. Hossain visited Mie University, Japan for Post-Doctoral Research for 10 months under JSPS Invited Fellowship (Long-Term) during 2012-2013.
Prof. Hossain started his service in 1989 as a Scientific Officer in the Marine Fisheries and Technology Station, Cox’s Bazar of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute. In 2001 he was promoted to Senior Scientific Officer. In 2005, for a short time, he joined newly established Faculty of Fisheries, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur as an Assistant Professor. In the same year, he joined as an Associate Professor in the Department of Fisheries, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University with an assignment of establishing a new faculty i.e., Faculty of Fisheries. As the senior most faculty in the Department, Prof. Hossain play key role in establishing Faculty of Fisheries in this university. He was appointed as a Professor in the Department of Aquaculture, in the same university in 2011. Prof. Hossain acted for 2 times as the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries.
Prof. Hossain is Life Member of Asiatic Society of Bangladesh; Agriculturists Institution, Bangladesh; Bangladesh Association for the Advancement of Science; Japan Society of the Promotion of Science Alumni Association of Bangladesh; Japanese Universities Alumnai Association, Bangladesh.
