He had been significantly contributed in developing of high yielding crop varieties and development of non-commodity technology.

Subsequently he changed his career to academician at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) in 2004. He has been joined as an Associate Professor in the Department of Crop Botany.

In his 17 years teaching career he has been taught a good number of courses namely Plant Nutrition, Developmental Plant Biology, Plant Anatomy, Plant Embryology, Plant Taxonomy in postgraduate levels, and Plant Taxonomy & Economic Botany, Plant Anatomy& Embryology and Plant Ecology in undergraduate levels. He has been supervised quite a good number of Ph.D. and M.S. students. A good number of research articles in different esteemed journals along with two books have been published by him.

Prof. Mia has been honored as the examiner of Ph.D. theses of Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia and external assessor for the posts of Associate Professor and Professor of Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences of the same university. Additionally, he has been serving as a postgraduate thesis evaluation of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia.

Prof. Mia performed as an international consultant in the Food and Agriculture Organization in the United Nation (FAO)  in 2016 and 2017 where he significantly contributed in establishing a tissue culture laboratory for the successful production of virus free potato seeds through tissue culture technique.

He also performed extracurricular activities as head of the department and provost of the students’ residential halls of BSMRAU.
