Dr. Hossain is a Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology. He studied Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and MS in Plant Pathology at Bangladesh Agricultural University. After completion of his MS, Dr. Hossain joined the Department of Plant Pathology of BSMRAU as a Lecturer. Later, Mr. Hossain went to Gifu University, Japan as a MONBUKAGAKUSHO fellow, where he obtained his second MS and the PhD. Immediately, Dr. Hossain worked as a Researcher in the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences, Gifu University until March 2009. Dr. Hossain returned back to the country in 2009 and joined the College of Agricultural Sciences of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology as Assistant Professor. Later, he moved again to the Department of Plant Pathology of BSMRAU as Assistant Professor in 2010. Dr. Hossain had been awarded the JIRCAS Visiting Fellowship twice in 2012-13 and 2013-14 to conduct his Postdocs on molecular breeding for soybean rust resistance at Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS). Dr. Hossain is actively engaged in teaching and research. He offers the courses such as PLP 603 Molecular Plant Pathology, PLP 440 Diseases of Horticultural and Plantation Crops, and PLP 502 Epidemiology and Plant Disease Control. Dr. Hossain’s research interests focus on the biology and applications of plant growth-promoting microorganisms and natural bio-products in stimulating plant growth and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses in plants. His team is currently involved in the characterization of seaweed resources in Bangladesh and investigating their potential application in agriculture. Dr. Hossain is also working on the characterization of soybean rust and rice blast resistance and developing new breeding materials useful for disease-resistant breeding. Under his supervision, one PhD and 14 MS students have been graduated. Prof. Hossain a member of the Bangladesh Phytopathological Society, Bangladesh Association of Advancement of Science, Global Network of Bangladeshi Biotechnologists, Krishibid Institution of Bangladesh, etc. He regularly serves as a reviewer in different prominent journals of his field of expertise.  For more details about his research interest, please follow the link-
