The department of Genetics and Fish Breeding (GFB) is one of the leading departments in the university. It started its academic activity since 2009. The department of GFB offers both undergraduate and graduate programs.
Fisheries science is constantly evolving. In recent years, the field of fisheries science is becoming highly specialized. Therefore, the mission of the department is to serve the country by achieving the highest standard in the advancement of knowledge in the field of genetics and fish breeding. Since its establishment, faculty members have been dedicatedly contributing to research and teaching focusing on genetics and fish breeding to enhance the fish production of our country to adapt the challenges of climate change and population growth. The department conducts both basic and applied researches in the field of genetics and fish breeding. It has state-of-the-art laboratory facilities with required modern equipments including thermal cycler (PCR machine) and phase contrast trinocular microscope for conducting cutting-edge researches to address new challenges in the food and nutritional security of Bangladesh.
