Dr. Afzal Sheikh with diverse research background and experiences joined as an Assistant Professor in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University in December 2020. He was born in Muksudpur Thana of Gopalganj district in 1987. Dr. Sheikh completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Rajshahi University in 2008 (held in 2010) and 2009 (held in 2011) respectively. After completing his M.Sc. degree (with thesis), Dr. Sheikh took a research position in Chiba Cancer Center Research Institute, Chiba Cancer Center in Japan, started from October 2011. In the next year, April 2014, he entered in the graduate school of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of Chiba university for his Ph.D. degree. He completed his Ph.D. in Medicine in March, 2016, and started his career in Japan as a research scientist of R&D division of Genesis Institute of Genetic Research (GIGR), Japan. Dr. Sheikh’s research experiences comprised of Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Precision Medicine (applied genomics), Pharmacogenetics (PGx), Toxicology and Bio-informatics.

Dr. Sheikh’s current research interest focuses on molecular biology of food additives, microbiome in health and diseases and applied genomics.

 Researcher (R &D, August 2016 to December 2020), Genesis Institute of Genetic Research, Genesis Healthcare Co. Ltd. Tokyo, Japan. (Works include creating research proposal/presentation, products development, data interpretation, creation of SOP for analysis pipeline, validation, and internal consulting of customer/client’s science related queries).

Visiting research position (October 2011 to March 2014), Chiba Cancer Center Research Institute, 666-2 Nitona-cho, Chuo-ku, Chiba 260-8717, Japan.
